US-Programmatic-Trends-October-2026

By October 27, 2026No Comments

Q3 2026 split inventory types right down the middle. App became the only format to grow revenue year-over-year, Web lost share, and Desktop grew impressions yet still lost money, a combination that doesn’t usually happen together. The thread connecting all three traces back to a change in who is actually buying and where that demand is landing, with one buyer’s pullback reshaping pricing far beyond what its size alone would suggest. Q4 is where this gets tested: heavier volume is coming, and the question is whether this quarter’s pricing gains were a genuine reset or just the calm before a busier season exposes the cracks.

Report Overview

This edition of the DataBeat Programmatic Trends Report draws on anonymized data from partners across the DataBeat network to surface U.S. programmatic advertising performance and trends for October 2026. The report benchmarks September 2026 results against both August 2026 and September 2025, delivering a dual lens of month over month and year over year perspective.

Key Highlights

  • On a month-over-month basis, Display CPMs rose 0.8% and Video CPMs gained 4.2%, producing a 1.7% overall CPM increase.
  • Year over year, Display CPMs climbed 8.2% while Video CPMs fell 20.1%, with overall CPM up 24.8%.
  • Pricing strengthened across most of the market, with Mobile up 29.1% and Desktop up 26.7% year over year, between them covering 94% of impressions. Programmatic fill rate increased 3.3% month-over-month and 0.8% year-over-year, indicating that pricing gains were accompanied by a modest improvement in monetization. Publishers should use this period to hold floors firm, as the improvement is in price rather than volume.
